{"id":52,"date":"2025-03-11T09:24:42","date_gmt":"2025-03-11T15:24:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.mohrplease.com\/?p=52"},"modified":"2025-03-11T09:25:12","modified_gmt":"2025-03-11T15:25:12","slug":"sloppy-joe-bierock-recipe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.mohrplease.com\/?p=52","title":{"rendered":"Sloppy Joe Bierock recipe"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Ingredients:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>For the Dough:<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>2 1\/4 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1 teaspoon salt<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1 packet (2 1\/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1 cup warm milk (about 110\u00b0F)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>2 tablespoons melted butter<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1 large egg<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>For the Sloppy Joe Filling:<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>1 pound ground beef<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1 medium onion, chopped<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>2 cloves garlic, minced<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>2 tablespoons tomato paste<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>2 tablespoons brown sugar<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1 teaspoon mustard (dijon)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Salt and pepper to taste<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>For Egg Wash:<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>1 egg, beaten<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1 tablespoon milk<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>For the insides:<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>pickled cabbage<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sharp Cheddar cheese<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Instructions:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Prepare the Dough:<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>In a large bowl, combine 1 cup of flour, salt, and yeast.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In a separate bowl, combine warm milk, melted butter, and egg.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until combined.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Gradually add the remaining flour, mixing until a soft dough forms.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes, until smooth and elastic.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Make the Sloppy Joe Filling:<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>In a large skillet, brown the ground beef over medium-high heat, breaking it up with a spoon. Drain any excess grease.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Add the onion and bell pepper (if using) and cook until softened, about 5-7 minutes.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Add the garlic and cook for 1 minute more.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Stir in the tomato sauce, tomato paste, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, salt, and pepper.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Bring to a simmer and cook for 15-20 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you would like to add cheese, stir in the shredded cheese, after removing the meat from the heat.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Allow the filling to cool slightly.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Assemble the Bierocks:<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Preheat oven to 375\u00b0F (190\u00b0C).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Punch down the risen dough and turn it out onto a lightly floured surface.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Divide the dough into equal portions (about 8-10).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Roll each portion into a circle, about 4-5 inches in diameter.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Place a generous scoop of the Sloppy Joe filling in the center of each circle.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Put in cabbage and cheese<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fold the dough over the filling, sealing the edges tightly.
